Zimbabwe

Flag of ZimbabweZimbabwe, officially the Republic of Zimbabwe, is a landlocked country located in southern Africa, between the Zambezi and Limpopo rivers. It is bordered by South Africa to the south, Botswana to the southwest, Zambia to the northwest and Mozambique to the east. The capital is Harare. Zimbabwe achieved de jure sovereignty from the United Kingdom in April 1980, following 14 years as an unrecognised state under the conservative white minority government of Rhodesia, which unilaterally declared independence in 1965.

  • Dr. Harold Scheub is the Evjue-Bascom Professor of Humanities in the Department of African Languages and Literature and one of the world’s leading scholars in African oral traditions and folklore.   • The International Library of African Music (ILAM) online Photo Archive was made possible with grant funding from South Africa's National Heritage Council (NHC). In 2007, with the NHC grant, ILAM undertook the digitisation of its photographic archive in conjunction with Africa Media Online . In October and November 2007 the Africa Media Online team relocated to ILAM and in conjunction with ILAM staff, managed to digitise over 11,000 images including negatives, slides and photographs of various formats.
